Automatic Installation (Workshop)
Installing with this method should show an "Update" button on the Mods screen when an update is available. The steam workshop is a little buggy, so if an automatic workshop subscription does not work for you, try a manual installation instead.
- Click the button above.
- Click Subscribe for each part you want from the collection.
- Start Civ 5
- Click Mods
- Enable the mods
- Click Next
- Click Single Player
(Also load modded games from this Mods menu, not the normal single player menu.)
Manual Installation (Download)
Click the button above to download the project. The zip file includes:
- Communitas Map (Cap)
This map creates several continents with realistic climate, and numerous offshore islands.
- Communitas AI and Tools (Cat)
Expands the AI and mod tools of Civ V: Brave New World. Both the expansion pack and interface changes below require the tools.
- Communitas Enhanced Gameplay (Ceg)
Improves the fun and strategic balance of BNW gameplay.
- Communitas Interface (Cin)
Improves the visual interface of the game.
- Click the download button above, then click the green "Download_CEP.zip" button.
- Unzip the file to this folder:
\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS
- Remove any old versions of the mod.
- Start Civ 5.
- Click Mods.
- Wait for Civ 5 to automatically unpack the mods.
- Enable the mods you wish to use.
- Click Next.
- Click Single Player.
(Also load modded games from this Mods menu, not the normal singleplayer menu.)
If Civ's automatic unpacker does not work, you can unpack the file manually.
- Download 7zip
- After step 2 above, right-click each .civ5mod file -> "7zip" -> "extract here".
(You may need to rename the file extension from *.civ5mod to *.7z)
Each mod has an Options.sql file located in the mod folder. You can open this with Notepad to change options.
If you wish to disable specific mod components from the expansion pack, simply change the folder name and the folder is disabled. For example if you want to disable the MapPins part of Civup, change the name of the MapPins folder to something like noMapPins:
\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS\Civ V Unofficial Patch v2.3.2 (GK) (v 1)\3_Interface_Branches\_Mods\noMapPins
Be aware that some components require others to function, so do this at your own risk. For example, balance adjustments between builder and conqueror gameplay styles span the city, army, and policy mod components, each located in separate folders.
The project is open source and very easy to tweak to your personal preferences. Just open up the files in the mod folders using notepad or notepad++. The xml files are easy to change and require no programming knowledge. Changing the lua files, however, requires some basic programming skills. You do not need to ask permission to use parts of Communitas in your own mods, but please give appropriate credit.
